The 20GB PlayStation 3 was first released in North America in November 2006. Since then, multiple upgrades have been done to the system and over 400 games have been released to date. So far, dozens of games are scheduled to be released in the year 2010 in categories from role-playing games to shooters.
Top 10 Upcoming PS3 Games
IGN has listed a few of the top upcoming PS3 games for the year 2010 in different categories. Their list is compiled by measuring the amount of “IGN Buzz” accrued by users on their website.
Action games include:
- God of War III will be released by Sony Computer Entertainment on March 30th.
- Final Fantasy XIII is listed as an action RPG and is a top game as well. More information is available about its release below.
- On January 5th, Bayonetta will be published by SEGA.
- Darksiders will also be available on January 5th from THQ.
Shooter games include:
- Bioshock 2 will be available in North America on February 9th from 2k Games.
- MAG will be available on January 26th from Sony Computer Entertainment.
Two top adventure games are:
- Heavy Rain will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment on February 28th.
- On December 31st The Last Guardian will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment as well.
Music games of 2010 include:
- On December 31st, Rock Band 3 will be published by MTV Games.
- Guitar Hero 6 is the working title for Activision's December 31st music game release.
Upcoming Racing Games for PS3
- March 30th brings Gran Turismo 5 from publisher Sony Computer Entertainment.
- SEGA will release Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing on March 31st.
- Midnight Club: Los Angeles--Complete Edition (Greatest Hits) from Rockstar Games on October 12th is highly anticipated.
- The working title for Electronic Arts' December 31st racing release is Need for Speed – Criterion Project.
- Activision's James Bond 007 Driving Action Project is currently untitled, but it set to be released on December 31st.
New Sports Games for PS3
According to IGN Entertainment, there are approximately 11 sports games for the PS3 with specific release dates in 2010. Listed below are a few of the game titles, publishers and release dates.
- Vancouver 2010: The Official Videogame of the Winter Olympic Games. Published by SEGA and scheduled for release on January 12th.
- MLB '10. Published by Sony Computer Entertainment on March 1st.
- Skate 3, Madden NFL 11, and Grand Slam Tennis. All three published by Electronic Arts on May 30th, August 30th, and December 31st, respectively.
- Deadliest Catch. Published by Crave Entertainment on June 30th.
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 11 (working title). Scheduled release is December 31st by Activision.
- Planet Minigolf. The scheduled release date is December 31st by Zen Studios.
Upcoming Fighting Games for PS3
There are a few games scheduled in this category during quarters one and two:
- Super Street Fighter IV, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Final Fight: Double Impact. All three are scheduled to be released by Capcom on March 31st (the first two games listed) and April 30th (the third game listed).
- UFC Undisputed 2010. THQ will release this game on May 25th.
- Deadliest Warrior: The Game. Available from Pipeworks Software on June 30th.
2010 Upcoming PS3 RPG Games
A couple of the most popular games are in a massively multiplayer online (MMO) format. They are also highly anticipated for release in the year 2010.
- Final Fantasy XIII. Square Enix will publish this game and release it on March 9th.
- Fallout: New Vegas. On December 31st this game will be available from Bethesda Softworks.
- Magic: The Gathering—Tactics. Sony Online Entertainment will release this on June 30th.
- Resonance of Fate. SEGA releases this game on September 30th.
- Final Fantasy XIV Online. Square Enix will release this on December 31st.
Upcoming PS3 Video Games
Many of these upcoming games for the PS3 will also be available on other consoles such as the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. Each of the release dates is approximated and the games are understood to be expected within the release date's “quarter”.
